Show Notes Fetish Flame 6.0 - Nov 8, 2005 - Of codpieces and car keys
Nova and Atticus have a very casual conversation that runs the gamut of topics from switching and spanking to podcasting and fashion.
They talk about their trip to LA to attend the Portable Media Expo/Podcast Conference. And divulge the identity of a celebrity guest they will be interviewing for a future show.
And, thanks to Tony at Skin Two, they finally get their hands on the incredibly flattering article by Jan Pelczynski in Issue #53! (Jan is also an incredible photographer and you can view his work in many issues of Skin Two)
They spend some time on listener mail. One letter from a kinky mom spurs more discussion on being kinky and being a parent.
*Question to the listeners*
What do you do with your "vanilla stuff" when you are wearing a fetish outfit with no pockets? (Please post answers in the comment section)
And now you can leave us a voice mail at 1-415-992-KINK

I have to contribute to this one because its certainly a topic between A and myself, but it applies to ANY outfit. The area I have run into most problems is when A is wearing a dress of any kind, be it fetish or not. I am very much of the oppinion that this is one of the reasons that purses come in so many styles, so that a woman can wear an outfit and have a purse with her that compliments what she is wearing while hiding away things like keys, IDs, and phones... This is a point of great discussion for us because it seems that I always end up with everything loaded in my pockets (As most male pants do have pockets) because A seems to have some unknown dislike for purses. Its hard enough with my own stuff in my pockets, its worse when you carry twice that ammount, not to mention A at least usually carrys stuff like lip gloss which means I typically have more of her stuff then I do of my own. Someone PLEASE talk A into using a purse!

Nekkycasting? Doubtless another first. Fetish Flame is on the cutting edge, hee hee.
As to where to put the keys, one option is to travel with a posse that has mule (e.g. moi). For example, you could dump your things in a pink Hello Kitty (or Barbie) backpack, which the mule would carry for you through out the evening. Of course, this precludes ditching the mule.
as always,
syndi

The dilema of where to put the important stuff has always bothered me. I wear an underbust corset with my catsuit and being a guy there is enough room at the top to slip a few bucks and ID. It isn't that great an method, money and credit cards sometimes slide down to unreachable places. My alternative is a rather fetish looking belt onto which I clip a little pouch for money and ID. Here is a link to the place that makes them: http://www.podbelt.com/
I had the parts around and made a belt like theirs, then I ordered the "pods" from them. Worn kind of loose on the hips it looks good.
I've also tried to make a small pouch that straps onto the outside of my boot. I made one that looked pretty cool, but never worked all that well. So far the belt works best.

Yah, I have to agree with syndi, I generally put stuff in her pink backpack. ;-)

Glad you mentioned the subject of Switches for a future show. A well matched switch couple can enjoy a very intense dynamic. Playing eye for an eye, one upping each other, Payback!... very neat stuff for those looking to test their limits. Would be interested to know if you guys have explored that.
Was watching The L Word the other day and realized that Nova sounds very much like Jenny...
(http://www.l-word.com/images/wallpapers/800/lword14-800.jpg) hence that is the image I have in my head when I listen. (That's my obscure reference for this week's post.) My visual for Atticus is not as well formed. I need to work on that.
Nice post fade-out snippet this week. I half expected to hear Nova chiding me for outing this feature of the show as the closing theme music drifted away. I'm so vain.

If you drive somewhere, nothing beats a hid-a-key as an emergency spare. I tuck mine up in the wheel well and it's always there to save my bacon when disaster strikes.
If I need to take a key, I've made a spare that is very thin and fits in my shoe/boot. Storing something in my shoe/boot is the most secure, but Atticus's suggestion of something under your arm band is much more convenient for cash.
The clothes that I've had designed I've had a small pocket sewn in for keys, condoms, what not.

As far as what to do with all the vanilla crap, there are probably some good solutions from our pervy retailers. I found a link to Mr. S. Leather on a leather wristband that has a zip pouch for money and maybe a key. But I don't know if there is a one-product solution. If anyone else finds a belt or cool packs to carry stuff, maybe we should post them here. Are there any accessories for boots that can address this?

I was given a nice little leather draw string bag. I hook it to my wrist restraints and then don’t worry about it. I don’t set it down so it doesn’t get lost and it matches the rest of the leather and chain I am wearing.

Billy - that's so funny! You're not vain at all, I totally was going to mention that you found it so fast, but I guess we were so eager to get through the show and 'ahem' finish to get on with other things that we forgot.
I think we should come up with some sort of prize for that...

hey Latextured! Great to see you here.
and THANK YOU for that link - Wow! what an amazing picture of Masuimi Max. I think I was ready to buy something as soon as the page came up and saw that LOL. Looks like they have a couple of items that will work for us.
[For anyone in LA, Masuimi Max be signing Steve Geodde's incredible DVD this weekend (11/19 & 11/20) at glamourcon. ]

Hi everybody,
I started listening to Fetish Flame because I felt it would be entertaining, and it certainly hasn’t disappointed on that front. What I wasn’t expecting is how much I’ve gotten from the guests and online comments; their experiences and insights have been so valuable in my own relationship. If you’ve stopped by to read these comments, why not leave one of your own? It’s so wonderful to read all the different perspectives provided by the posters and the more comments left, the more helpful of a community this site becomes. It would be especially great to hear from our kinky cousins around the world. Although pervery is, of course, a distinctly American invention, it would be great to see how far it’s spread. ;)
Oh, and quick, while Atticus isn’t looking, because Nova is such a dear and asked so nicely, why not stop by PodcastAlley (http://www.podcastalley.com/search.php?searchterm=fetish+flame#) and vote for Fetish Flame? I believe Atticus and Nova deserve all the recognition we can give them.
Sincerely,
Stays

I can certainly understand your being (ahem)distracted and anxious to get on with your evening. I would NEVER want to stand in the way of that.
My prize?... Replaying at 1:58 into the 6.0 show the way you say "My Cat Mask". Thinking about sampling that and turning it into a Trance track. What a great name for a song!
And by the way, Atticus mentions you guys being "geeks". Well you guys actually come across way cool. Nevertheless, I've always suspected some potential geeki-ness since your shows are numbered like software releases. I'm thinking Atticus is some type of super-straight IT professional by day. Like me!
Posted by: Roman at November 19, 2005 05:24 AM
Do I sense a trend here? Are we all super-straight IT guys by day? Wonder if it is something in the water.
Posted by: Nova at November 19, 2005 03:46 PM
Natasha and syndi - I think you need to take me out to find a cute pink backpack (and maybe a cute submissive to carry it for me) =giggle=
J - There are some very sexy small purses out there (and Christmas is just around the corner...) I have a very hot leather corset purse, but I still prefer my tiny little thing that I can slide in my boot - and I know A has super cute boots!
Ms. Thrash - That's a great suggestion! I think the biggest problem with purses, even sexy ones, feel cumbersome after a while or keep sliding off the shoulder - but a wrist bag stays put when dancing, or drinking, or ... I think want to find a soft furry one :)
This is so much fun - Keep the ideas coming!
Posted by: Nova at November 19, 2005 03:48 PM
Roman - I think you're onto a new show idea!
"Kinky IT guys and the women who flog them...."
Posted by: Stays at November 20, 2005 02:08 AM
So far we've had spanking, strap-ons, latex, crossdressing and even furries, all through which I feel I've been open minded and even accepting. Now you've reached my limit. IT professionals?! Have you people no shame? Are there no limits to the depths of depravity you are willing to sink.
"Squick" doesn't begin to cover it.
There used to be some fun spiky rubber purses and backpacks available but I can't find them online anymore. I've got one of their red heart shaped pillows but the only label I see on it is "bug" on the zipper. While searching desperately online I came across a company call Zuss (www.zuss.com) that sells a line of really unique rubber bags.
Posted by: Nova at November 20, 2005 03:34 AM
=chuckle= Stays, you crack me up!
Atticus remembered the name of the maker of the cook spiky rubber backpacks: Craig Morrison. Sadly, he is no longer making them. But you can drool over his stuff here: http://www.cmd.co.uk/merchan/index.htm (Warning: can induce drooling in latex lovers)
we found some that make knockoffs: http://www.technokitty.com/catalog.php
Kumimonster has the Craig Morrison backpack. it's so cool....
Posted by: AcK! at November 20, 2005 03:59 AM
Um, the designer for spikey rubber accesories and accessorized furniture is Craig Morrison. Now you've got a place to drop this month's earnings. Ov Course, who 'wouldn't' mind having the spikey rubber lips couch in their living room?

Doh! just alil too slow on that info. *bump*
However, i just did a search for Craig Morrison on ebay.
Availability can be a hit-or-miss, but there's currently some gear up there for buy-it-now. *gryn*
Posted by: Stays at November 20, 2005 06:18 PM
Thanks for the eBay tip AcK! (Bill the Cat fan?). Recently, one of the online sites was selling off one of Craig’s spiky sofas and I so wish I had the cash to add that to my house. I’ve got the pillow in my study and everybody loves to hold it. While we’re talking they twang away at the spikes (nipples?) without even knowing it. I think Craig Morrison’s designs have a lot of playfulness in them, which I think is important in fetish. Violet Blue is great about encouraging people to have fun; smile and laugh. From the pictures of the Pink Posse on Princessa Strange’s site, it looks like she knows how to keep it fun as well.
Speaking (typing?) of fun; if you haven’t come across it yet, check out the Savvie and Lacey webcomic at http://www.savvieandlacey.com/. It’s good lighthearted fun and even occasionally touching.

So much to connect to,
*** new idea***
A sub lives a way away and being a playful one and inspired to compose some solo-scenes for her in between rendez-vous, in the meantime I have built up a "collection" of these assignments.
Of course geared to my tastes, at times I have exchaged these on a one to one level, but would it be an idea to "trade" them in a type of "pool"?
Based on flavour, duration, intensity, accesories ?
*** _ ***
Someone posted the fact that the US conceived "pervyness"?
Fair enough, maybe a brand of...
Lest we casually forget Chinese, Egyptian and Roman empires, middle ages, renaissance, victorian times, to name but the commercial eras.
Living so close by to these sources, they tend to inspire us on this side of the puddle,
on the other hand for various cultural and social reasons, the finer art of fetish liaisons are a delight to be enjoyed, shall we say: for 50% (guess quote) behind closed curtains for some and for others openly in a spectrum of tastes in locations...
(Interesting question? How far do you enter into advertising (blipverts to campaigntrails) your brand of erotics or is it something we prefer to keep behind curtains (does discretion add to the sfere of the liaison))
I am from gent.be,
love your efforts, color and tone.

Yet another outstanding episode! The quality of your podcasts continue to grow. The only downside to your show is that I cannot multi-task - you're too distacting! I couldn't even imagine listing to Fetish Flame during a commute.
I appreciate your brief comments on switching and would enjoy hearing more. I find it absolutely exhilirating since I know exactly what the sub is experiencing. I would definitely suppport PayPal idea. While I appreciate your show, I can also appreciate your ever increasing costs!
Thanks again!

wow, atticus, nice codpiece! ;-)
hey, just wanted to give you guys a shout, having just listed to my first full serving of your delicious Fetish Flame podcast. i LOVED your show.
to tell you just a bit about myself, i'm a local SF guy... your garden variety homo... well, kinky homo. i'm also putting together my own podcast called Queer Sex Weekly (www.livejournal.com/users/qsw), that will definitely include a lot of discussion around alternate sexuality... kink, leather, polyamory. i'll keep you posted as I progress.
a couple of quick comments on the show i listened to. first, i completely agree with you about the value of being a switch. i'm still relatively new to the leather scene, and maybe it's different in queer kink, but that's the kink i'm most familiar with and i have been struck by how there seems to be this strong dichotimizing push to declare yourself either a DOM or a SUB, a TOP or a BOTTOM. that seems very limiting to me, especially with a regular partner. i also think you touched on an important point as well, that even if you are mainly a DOM, having that occasional experience as a SUB makes you so much more aware and attentive to your partner needs when you go back to your regular DOM role.
second, is simply a referral to a couple of other podcasts. if you don't already listen to cunningminx's Polyamory Weekly and Graydancer's Rope Weekly, give them a try. They are a (mostly) hetero (labels suck) poly couple and they each have their own podcasts. Graydancer has spoken before on Minx's podcast, and perhaps his own as well, about being poly and raising a family, and as I know they both speak openly about their interests in kink as well, I imagine those discussions around family issues must have also touched on being kinky and raising a family, too.
Kids are of zero interest to me, but I'm sure that to many kinky folks (gay and straight) those "raising-a-family" issues are very important.
Keep up the good work, and I look forward to listening to you show again soon.
peace,
5x5
ps - did i mention how hot you look in that codpiece, atticus?
Posted by: Nova at November 30, 2005 02:46 PM
Hi 5x5! (interesting pseudonym)
=giggle= I've been waiting to see who might comment on that picture. But we must confess....we never said the picture was of Atticus...hmmm
We listen to all of the Polyamory Weekly and Rope Weekly podcasts. I would dare to say that Minx has *the* sexiest voice in podcasting.
We received some interesting points of view on our theory of switching - and will share them on an upcoming show. I'd love to talk to you more via email regarding this topic.
have a great day!
xoxo
PS: So where do you put your car keys when you are dressed for a scene at a party?

Naked Naked !
Great kinks think alike Atticus.
I've also got a nice leather wrist strap/zipwallet from regulation-london.co.uk.(Wonder what it looks like Nova? ) I remember they also made impressive thick rubber pouches like a batman utility belt. Have to mention their rubber play tent, yes full size dome tent.
Love the show as always. Shame on you for posting pics of someone elses bits.

Not too surprising about the preponderance of IT people here; podcasting is still an unknown area to a lot of people. (And, we know how to avoid triggering the web filter)
I'm interested in an odd topic: How do married couples keep their interest in kink going over the years? Kids are a big life-changing experience, making privacy, energy, and free time into scarce commodities. How do others deal with this?
Nova, Atticus, you two are a real treat. You sound a lot more professional and relaxed in front of the microphone than many radio announcers. Thanks so much for your show!

Stretchhh - you're not the first to say they listen at work (through headphones of course) and that we can be a bit distracting.
I find that to be a wonderful compliment! Thank you.
We'll be doing a show next year that addresses 'kink in a marriage', and 'kink as a parent'. I have a great couple in mind to interview, and just need to approach them with it.
And THANK YOU so much for your support. We love doing the show, and you make it easier for us to take it to the next level. (I'm hoping that 2006 will be the year of a video attempt!)
Wishing everyone a great holiday season!

Hi Y'all
Just a quick note RE: Craig Morrison. I'm not sure of the long term business Nova? But I just bought and received some nice spiky latex bags directly from cmd.co.uk paypal transaction.
They feel REALLY nice !
(PS dont tell Gwennan there for Christmas)

I have a little black zipper bag that is covered with little spikes. I like the idea of attaching it to a restraint bracelet (or some kind of a bracelet) mentioned above, that could be "the answer")
I also have a little zebra stripe zipper bag, and a purple neoprene shoulder pack for those long days at the faire.
I still haven't found a completely satisfactory solution - a pocket inside a latex suit got too damp after a long day.
Posted by: Nova at December 8, 2005 02:50 PM
Rob - thanks for the info. I'm going to get something for myself for xmas.
Mike - I'm so happy you wrote in on this one! I meant to ask when we did the show with you.
I was wondering if latex designers could create pockets in the outfits - and I guess it's like putting a dollar bill in my sock and then going for a run :)
maybe there's a way to line them with waterproof material without it creating too much bulk?
